Some Random Stranger, “He definitely shouldn’t have done that!!!”
Samson, “Shouldn’t have done what?”
Some Random Stranger, “He shouldn’t have chooooooed so loudly every time he hit the net or edge with a lucky shot!!! He made me mad! When I’m mad, I play so determined!”
Samson: “So what happens when you aren’t mad?”
As you can see, the random stranger was mentally weak. I’m going to say it again – this guy was MENTALLY WEAK. When he was playing normally, he was about 80% focused on winning. When he was mad, he was then 100% focused and began playing much much better.
Remember this: YOU need to be in control of YOUR OWN mental game.
If your opponent’s cheating or your opponent’s loud chooing or your opponent’s mr-nice-guy approach or your opponent’s politeness or your opponent’s mannerism make you play better or worse, then you will not be able to play your best every match. You need to be in control of your own mental game. You need to give yourself mental reminders before and after every point to stop, reflect, clear, plan, and prepare for the next point.
