Jesus Christ is my motivation for everything in life. He put aside his own comfort, humbled himself in coming to earth, died the death that I deserved, and was raised again to give me new life. This morning, I was reading one of my favorite Bible verses and thought that I would share it with you…
Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
The heavens declare the glory of God;
And the firmament shows His handiwork.
2 Day unto day utters speech,
And night unto night reveals knowledge.
3 There is no speech nor language
Where their voice is not heard.
4 Their line has gone out through all the earth,
And their words to the end of the world.
Today, I would like to share with you a very family portion of the Bible and briefly describe a detail that you might have missed. The portion of Scripture is found in Mark chapter 15; it is describing the death of Christ.
In ancient times, people did not want to promise something and say, “I swear by God that I will do this.” Because they felt that if they swore by God, that they were under obligation to keep their oath, and they often wanted to back out of a promise. So, people used to say things like…
“I swear by heaven”
“I swear by God’s throne”
“I swear by the earth”
“I swear by Jerusalem”
“I swear by my head that I promise to do this or that”
Matthew 6:19-21 Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where month and rest destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasure in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Psalm 37:3-5 Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
